5-member gang kidnaps, extorts scrap dealer in Tirumangalam

The Tirumangalam police is investigating a complaint that a scrap dealer was kidnapped and extorted by a five-member group, including a woman. But officials suspect it could have been an affair went wrong.

On Wednesday night, Amarnath, received a call asking him to come to Anna Nagar 18th Street. There, four men pushed him into a car and attacked in the presence of a woman known to him.

The gang allegedly took Rs 2 lakh and two gold rings from him, and made his wife Nalinikumari transfer Rs 40,000 to the woman's account to release him. Their car also went missing, following which Nalinikumari lodged a complaint that the same gang could have taken it.

Officials said Amarnath is suspected to have been in an affair with the woman and could have been kidnapped following differences between them. The police said FIR would be registered after questioning the couple again.
