According to the police, the family of the deceased donated his organs after the doctors declared him brain dead. He had pledged his organs for donation a few years ago.

The accused, P Vishal (29), a native of Cheyyur in Kancheepuram, was staying in Maduravoyal with his uncle. He was helping him in the business.

The police noted that Vishal, after consuming alcohol at a resto-bar in Tiruvanmiyur, took his car and drove on ECR. He lost control and knocked down two men drinking tea near Neelankarai on Tuesday night at around 8pm. While the duo escaped with minor injuries, other passers-by informed the police control room. By the time the police team caught up with Vishal near Akkarai, Vishal’s car had already run over another man at Injambakkam.

The victim was identified as V Sampath Kumar (52). A resident of Velachery, Sampath was working in a private company. He was admitted to a private hospital after the accident. But he succumbed to injuries on Thursday night.

The Adyar Traffic Investigation police, who registered a case, arrested Vishal and remanded him in judicial custody.
