40 kg ganja smuggled from AP seized, 6 held

Tiruvallur police seized 40 kg ganja from six men who had smuggled the contraband from Andhra Pradesh in government buses on Sunday.

Gummidipoondi DSP Ramesh and team checked an Andhra Pradesh government bus based on a tip-off and seized two bags containing 10 kg ganja. Sivakumar (47) of Dindigul and Balaraji (31) of Visakhapatnam, who were in possession of the ganja, were handed over to Arambakkam police station. Police said the duo bought the contraband in Nellore.

A similar raid at a Tamil Nadu government bus led to the seizure of 30 kg ganja. As many as four men hailing from Tiruchy who smuggled the ganja were detained. Further investigation is on.

Meanwhile, city police arrested peddlers including a mother-son duo in Ennore and Sankar Nagar. Ennore police arrested Sheela (37) and her 19-year-old son Vinothkumar of Ernavur and seized 1.5 kg ganja from them.

Similarly, Sankar Nagar police arrested a duo of West Bengal native -- Shiek Yakub (31) and Martin Sardar (30) -- in possession of 400 grams of ganja. All of them were remanded in judicial custody.
