3 officials in soup for selling govt land

Three Revenue Department officials, who allegedly sold government land in Thazhanbur worth Rs 137 crores using forged documents while they were in posted in Chengalpattu, are being probed by the Kancheepuram district crime branch police. The incident happened in 2018.

Chengalpattu Collector A John Louis received information that 102 acre government land, estimated to be worth Rs 137 crores, was issued patta and sold illegally to 44 people by Chengalpattu sub-registrar E Balasubramani, E Palaniyammal, and the Revenue Divisional Officer Muthuvadivelu when they were posted in Chengalpattu in 2018.

Based on this, the Collector directed to investigate into the alleged malpractice. After the investigation, Tambaram RDO lodged a complaint with the Kancheepuram district crime branch. The main accused, Balasubramani, died.
