3 killed, 15 injured as omni buses collide near Madurai

According to a Daily Thanthi report, a private omni bus travelling from Chennai to Tirunelveli rammed into another omni bus that was parked on the roadside. The impact caused severe damage to the rear portion of the stationary bus.

MADURAI: Three passengers were killed and 15 others sustained serious injuries when two private omni buses collided on the National Highway near Pallapatti in Kottampatti, on the outskirts of Madurai, on Saturday.

According to a Daily Thanthi report, a private omni bus travelling from Chennai to Tirunelveli rammed into another omni bus that was parked on the roadside. The impact caused severe damage to the rear portion of the stationary bus.

Bystanders rushed to the spot and rescued the trapped passengers, who were taken to a nearby government hospital for treatment. The injured are undergoing treatment, police said.

Police have registered a case in connection with the accident and are investigating the cause. The incident has once again raised concerns among passengers, as omni buses have been involved in frequent accidents in recent times.
