3 Dalit leaders booked for inflammatory speeches

The city police arrested three Dalit outfit leaders in separate cases for alleged inflammatory speeches during protests and agitations held at Valluvar Kottam, Nungambakkam, in August and November last year.

Tamil Puligal Katchi leader Nagai Thiruvallun was booked under three sections, including IPC 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and related sections, for his speech during a protest against the Central government’s education policies on August 5, 2019.


The Nungambakkam police have registered a case against Bhagyaraj of Makkal Tamil Desam Katchi for his speech on August 6, 2019, under the similar section. He had taken part in a demonstration to mark protest against caste-based honour killings.


In another case, the police registered a case against Mathi, leader of Ambedkar Makkal Padai, when he spoke at a protest meeting against the release of Melvalavu murder accused at Vallurvar Kottam on November 22, last year.
