24 bikes seized for rash driving on Christmas Eve in Chennai

CHENNAI: The Chennai police seized 24 two-wheelers involved in rash driving on city roads on Christmas Eve, and booked cases against the riders.

To ensure the safety of road users and curb the menace of over-speeding and bike racing in the city, special drives are conducted during weekends and festival nights by deploying additional police personnel.

Accordingly, a special drive was conducted across the city on Wednesday night and the two-wheeler riders involved in rash driving were identified and their vehicles were seized by the traffic police personnel.

"Strict legal actions are being pursued. GCTP emphasises the importance of celebrating any festival responsibly and urges the public to cooperate in ensuring a safe, accident-free festival. Any reports of rash driving or dangerous driving should be promptly communicated to the GCTP through the helpline, +91 90031 30103," it said in an official release.

GCTP warned motorists that engaging in dangerous or rash driving will lead to severe consequences, including vehicle detention.
