200 women take part in Corporation’s cyclothon for women safety, empowerment

More than 200 women cyclists took part in a cyclothon conducted by the Greater Chennai Corporation under ‘Nalamigu Chennai’ initiative, on Saturday night.

“The event was conducted to emphasise empowerment of women and women safety. Apart from women, children also participated in the event,” an official said. 

Following the event, bicycle rallies were conducted on Sunday morning. The rallies commenced from 10 spots in the city. 

As part of the 75th Independence Day celebrations, fitness activities are encouraged around the city by the corporation with a week-long plan. 

Apart from cycling events, to encourage fitness activities in the city, GCC has decided to open 29 parks inviting the public to use the space for their fitness activities from September 25 to October 3. Residents can share videos of their fitness activities, which would be shared on social media. 

Also, Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) at Ripon Building will be opened for school and college students.

Meanwhile, Women personnel of the Greater Chennai Police participated in a cycle rally to emphasise the fact that the city remains safe for women. The rally was flagged off by Mylapore Deputy Commissioner Disha Mittal from the Gandhi statue in Marina covered areas War Memorial, Chennai Central, Aminjikarai, Nungambakkam and Mylapore.
