1.85 lakh names to be out of Chennai voters’ list

Corporation Commissioner and District Electoral Officer of Chennai B Chandra Mohan on Monday informed that they have identified 1.85 lakh voters to be removed from the rolls in 16 assembly constituencies coming under Chennai district.

According to him, of the 1.85 lakh voters, 1.1 lakh have died, 54,317 have shifted to constituencies out of Chennai district, 14,131 were double entries and 6004 were not residing in the addresses mentioned in the electoral roll. Details about the removal of names was shared with the representatives of political parties who were present at the meeting in the Corporation.

The meeting was held as a run-up to prepare the final rolls ahead of the Assembly polls. 

Views from the representatives of parties such as AIADMK, DMK, CPI, Congress and BSP were recorded. Speaking to reporters, DMK leader J Anbazhagan said that during the meeting they have demanded the official machinery to take steps to remove the suspected bogus voters from the rolls.
