Chennai
Lyca’s flagship project is aimed at to the top 2 to 3 per cent of the population, who will get to avail of frontline hospitality experience in the healthcare capital of the country.
Right from a tablet based platform to record patient details, to the delivery of healthcare, the subsidiary of the UK-based LycaHealth, aims to usher in a mix of efficient, high-tech service in a luxurious environ,” noted Dr Manpreet S Gulati, CEO, Director-Co-Founder of Westminster.
Using the ‘Firsthealth,’ a membership scheme (ultra-premium service plan tentatively priced at Rs 2.5 lakh), the healthcare entity plans to provide access to unlimited outpatient services excluding some procedures. It claims to have signed up with 100 such members, who, LycaHealth Director Sen Kandiah said, were mostly from Salem and Coimbatore.
Interestingly, the initial idea was to provide healthcare in Tier II and III cities of Tamil Nadu by leveraging the links in Chennai. But the shortage of doctors and other hurdles including financial, had Kandiah think about setting up the fivestar daycare facility in the city. Generating wealth by targeting a niche population, he feels their company can develop the “social enterprise” much more effectively.
A philosophy endorsed by Allirajah Subaskaran, Lyca Group Chairman and Prema Subaskaran, Chairperson, LycaHealth, who believe that positioning Westminster as an independent unit that will have collaborative partnerships with doctors and other stakeholders, a superior experience and facilitation of formal second opinions would be possible. The Lyca group which has 4,000-odd staff working in India, proposes to invest a $0.25 billion in the country. On the anvil is LycaMobile service, the company’s foray into the Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) space. The group has applied for a license for this. Under this programme, their customers can get to use the roaming facility for free in the 22 countries where the group has presence, chipped in Subaskaran.
Responding to a query, Dr Gulati, said there were 32 revenue streams available to the company which included imaging, high-end scanning, endoscopic procedures and advanced super specialty dentistry options to the patients. By harnessing the power of latest technologies such as video-conferencing and telemedicine, the day care facility will adhere to the British standards, protocols and clinical guidelines, he said.
Scanning with a silver screen
Westminster’s healthcare facilities include a scanning and MRI enclosure. Patients availing the MRI can now undergo the scan while watching a movie of their choice, for the duration of the process. The digitally-embedded equipment offers an ambience aimed at providing comfort to fidgety patients. Senior officials of an MNC dealing in medical hardware, said this was their first installation in Tamil Nadu (Westminster’s third) that gave this ‘filmy’ experience to patients. Titles such as Harry Potter and cartoons were high on the wish list of young patients.
