Having been raised in a family where parents have stressed on the importance of service, Dr Roshini, alumnus of Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, has been conditioned to serve those in need. “Every year on special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries, my parents were involved in charity.

They have been sponsoring education for the of needy students. Since the time I was a child, they taught me the importance of charity.” On Thursdays, she treats outpatients free of cost at her clinic. Apart from these services, she also ensures that they don’t miss on their healthcare due to financial constraints. Born in Kumbakonam and raised in Dubai, she moved to India to pursue her MBBS from the Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.

After marriage, she began pursuing her PG in gynaecology. “Like my parents, my in-laws, too, are into serving the poor. My husband and father-in-law was instrumental in the decision to start my own clinic. He said I would be able to do the best for the poor through my profession. I started my clinic in February this year.”

Recently, she also conducted a free health screening, including packages covering tests for PCOD in women and general wellness for both genders. While acknowledging the lack of healthcare access to the poor, she added that there are many like her who attempt to bridge the gap. “In fact, my motivation was from my gynaecologist Dr Uma K, who has also been into the service for a long time.”
