CHENNAI: Actor Sasikumar will portray an Indian National Army (INA) officer in filmmaker Dharani Rasendran's upcoming period war drama, which has been titled Death Railway. The makers unveiled the film's title along with a glimpse video on Thursday, coinciding with the director's birthday.

Known for directing the critically acclaimed period film Yaathisai, Dharani Rasendran returns with another historical drama set against the backdrop of World War II and India's freedom struggle.

The glimpse offers a look into the film's historical setting, taking audiences back to 1944, when World War II was at its peak and Japanese forces were advancing through Burma towards India.

Against this backdrop, the film explores a lesser-known chapter of the war, focusing on Indian soldiers fighting on distant borders while the country was engaged in its struggle for independence.

Blending the intensity of wartime conflict with an emotional romantic narrative, Death Railway appears to explore both the human and historical dimensions of this turbulent period.

Sasikumar plays the lead role of an INA officer, while the ensemble cast includes Samuthirakani, Seyon, Kishore, Bhavani Sre and Sshivada. Actor Ashok Selvan is also set to make a special cameo appearance.

Produced by J Kamalakannan under the banner of J.K. Film International, the film is written and directed by Dharani Rasendran. Sarthak Kalyani has composed the music, with additional music by AC Charles Raj. R Sethumurugavel Jeganathan is handling the cinematography, while Mahendran Ganesan is the editor.
