85-year-old film producer Rajan jumps off Adyar bridge, dies

CHENNAI: Tamil film producer K Rajan (85) allegedly died by suicide on Sunday evening. The police and personnel from the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services (TNFRS) secured his body from the Adyar River near the Thiru Vi Ka Bridge on Sunday evening.

According to police sources, Rajan asked his car driver, P Dhanasekaran, to take him near the Thiru Vi Ka Bridge and told him to wait. Rajan allegedly told his driver that he was going for a walk. However, Rajan walked on the bridge and leapt into the river. After this, shocked onlookers alerted the authorities.

Personnel from Adyar police station and TNFRS teams rushed to the scene. The rescue personnel and swimmers conducted a search in the Adyar River and secured Rajan. The police rushed the producer to a hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. The police moved the octagenarian's body to the Government Royapettah Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The police have registered a case and are investigating. The former Chief Minister, Edappadi K Palaniswami, and members of the film fraternity expressed their condolences.
