Dhruv Vikram’s debut film Adithya Varma that hit the screens last month won critical acclaim for the debutant’s performance. Dhruv was supposed to make his debut with Bala’s Varma before the project was dropped due to creative differences between Bala and producer Mukesh Mehta of E4 Entertainment. Speculation on Tuesday was that Bala’s Varma will release in January across digital platforms to compensate the loss the producer incurred in the making of the film. When we contacted a source close to the production unit, he told DT Next, “Firstly, releasing Bala’s version of the film for digital platforms was not in the producer’s scheme of things. Secondly, Adithya Varma is a commercially viable venture at the box-office. The film was made on a budget of Rs 8.5 crore and the digital rights were sold for Rs 5.5 crore. The film’s theatrical collection came up to Rs 6 crore and in total, Adithya Varma has made a business of Rs 14 crore till date, which is a huge success for a debutant like Dhruv.”

The film is in its fourth week and is still having a strong theatrical run in Chennai. In Adithya Varma, Dhruv played the role of a house surgeon who isdealing with anger management issues.

The film has Banita Sandhu playing the female lead and has Leela Samson, Raja, Priya Anand and Anbu Dasan in important roles.
