The commuters claim that the buses do not stop at the desired place, forcing them to run behind the buses as they arrive.

Perungalathur, also known as ‘mini Koyambedu’, operates buses to the southern cities of Tamil Nadu. The commuters state that the bus stop was an unplanned project by the state government, which is functioning for many years without any facilities.

Passengers say that the bus stop towards the city has no shelter and it is tough to predict where the bus would halt.

Speaking to DT Next Naveen, a regular commuter from Perungalathur said, “We have to wait under the hot sun to board a bus and we run from one end to another as the drivers stop the bus at a place of their convenience.”

While we wait to board the bus and it rains, we have no other option but to get drenched, shared Ramanathan, another commuter from Perungalathur.

Passengers said that the share autos and private buses occupying the space during peak hours makes the situation worse. Elderly people are the most affected at Perungalathur bus stop.

Sources said that the Municipality planned to construct a bus stop a few years ago but permission for the same was not granted by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

When contacted, the Peerkankaranai town panchayat executive officer R Suma, said she would look into the old records and take the issue to the council. She assured that a temporary shed will be placed soon.
