Woman who sprayed chilly powder on DMK councillor's wife at large

Police said Megala (53) of Thandalam village in Thiruporur is the wife of Jayachandran (57), a DMK councillor in Chengalpattu.

CHENNAI: Police are searching for an unidentified woman who sprayed chilly powder on the face of the wife of a DMK Councillor and snatched her 10-sovereign gold chain in Thiruporur on Thursday.

Police said Megala (53) of Thandalam village in Thiruporur is the wife of Jayachandran (57), a DMK councillor in Chengalpattu. Megala, who was sick, was staying in the house on the second floor and was getting treatment. On Thursday, while Megala was alone in the house, a woman aged around 40 years visited the house and asked for a glass of water to drink. When Megala went inside the kitchen, the woman followed her and took a packet of chili powder and sprayed it on her face. Soon, she shouted for help, but the woman quickly snatched her 10-sovereign gold chain and escaped from the house.

Later, Jayachandran filed a complaint at the Thiruporur police station and the police formed a special team and are trying to identify the woman with the help of CCTV in the locality.
