Virudhunagar cracker unit blast: Death toll rises to three

MADURAI: Two more workers succumbed to burns sustained in an explosion at a cracker manufacturing unit in Chinnavadiyur near Virudhunagar, taking the death toll to three.

The unfortunate incident occurred on February 5, instantly killing a worker -- Ramalakshmi (50) of Pandalkudi -- and injuring six others. Vachakkarapatti police filed a case following the explosion.

On Wednesday, two workers succumbed to burns while receiving treatments. The deceased were identified as Veeralakshmi (34) of Athiveeranpatti and Simon Daniel (33) of Meenampatti.

Veeralakshmi was admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital in Virudhunagar, while Simon received treatment at a private hospital in Madurai.
