T’malai crime branch arrests 4 women for conning 20 people of Rs 3 cr

Police said that Ranganathan (56) of Kil Pennathur was approached by a relative Lakshmi (45) of Villupuram with another woman Amirtham (61) in 2013 and requested Rs 25 lakh urgently which they said they would return two fold.

TIRUVANNAMALAI: The district crime branch registered a case and arrested four women, who reportedly conned more than 20 people of more than Rs 3 crore on Tuesday. Police said that Ranganathan (56) of Kil Pennathur was approached by a relative Lakshmi (45) of Villupuram with another woman Amirtham (61) in 2013 and requested Rs 25 lakh urgently which they said they would return two fold. Ranganathan handed over Rs 15.45 lakh and 21 sovereigns gold to them. Again in 2015, the duo along with two other women Latha and Sasikala (40) took Rs 1.10 lakh and 6 sovereigns of gold from him. They threatened Ranganathan with death when he asked for the money. They also boasted that they had cheated more than Rs 3 crore from more than 20 people. Ranganathan complained to crime branch.
