MADURAI: Dramatic scenes ensued in an aided girl’s high school on Friday in Dindigul’s Chinnalapatti when many students protested against alleged casteist remarks made by a teacher.

On Wednesday, the school had seen two students, who were allegedly subjected to the casteist remarks, consuming phenyl that was kept inside the school toilet. Sources said the students were taken to the hospital and are safe. Based on the complaint, a mathematics teacher has been suspended.

Dindigul Chief Educational Officer A. Nasarudeen said a thorough enquiry was conducted among the students regarding the allegation. The officer said no other students, except the students who boarded the school vehicle from Thoppampatti, had raised similar allegations against the teacher.

The CEO said there were some issues in the vehicle in the last ten days between students of XI –A and XI-B over occupying seats in the school vehicle. However, the reason behind consuming phenyl is yet to be known, he said.
