Sri Lankan court extends remand of 12 fishermen

The fishermen, who are lodged in Mannar prison, were produced for the third time in connection with a case alleging that they crossed the maritime boundary for fishing

RAMESWARAM: Twelve fishermen from Rameswaram were remanded in custody again till January 28 after being produced before a court in Mannar, Sri Lanka, on Thursday.

The fishermen, who are lodged in Mannar prison, were produced for the third time in connection with a case alleging that they crossed the maritime boundary for fishing.

The court ordered the extension of their judicial custody, following which they were taken back to prison. The fishermen had set out to sea from Rameswaram on December 23 and were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.

They have remained in custody since then.
