Severed head found on road in Madurai, triggers panic

The Commissioner of Police, Madurai City, said that cotton was found in the nostrils of the severed head, indicating that it belonged to a cremated corpse.

CHENNAI: A severed head was found near Thirupalai on Natham road in Madurai, triggering panic among locals. 

Sources said that a dog was spotted bringing the head from elsewhere.

On being alerted, the Tallakulam police along with a sniffer dog inspected the spot and held enquiries. 

The Commissioner of Police, Madurai City, said that cotton was found in the nostrils of the severed head, indicating that it belonged to a cremated corpse. 

It was then found that the dog had brought the head from a corpse at a cemetery, just about 150 meters away from the place where the head was found.

Following this, the severed head was found to be of an 85-year-old woman who was cremated on November 12. The deceased's relatives too confirmed that the head was hers.
