CHENNAI: Parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to receive rain from April 4, with the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecasting light to moderate showers followed by thunderstorms and lightning over the next few days.

On April 4, rain is likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, with thunderstorms and lightning expected at one or two locations.

Rain is expected to be slightly higher on April 5 and April 6, when light to moderate rain is likely at a few places across the state. Thunderstorms and lightning may continue at isolated locations during this period. The conditions are linked to a trough running from Marathwada to south TN across interior Karnataka at lower levels, which is aiding cloud formation and localised rain activity.

From April 7, rainfall is expected to reduce. Light rain is likely at isolated places, mainly over the Western Ghats districts, coastal TN, Puducherry and Karaikal, while many other areas may remain dry. Similar conditions are expected to continue on April 8 and April 9, with only isolated light rain forecast.

Meanwhile, day temperatures are likely to increase gradually over north TN by about 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next few days. For Chennai, dry weather is likely to continue at least till April 4, with partly cloudy skies.

The maximum temperature is expected to be around 36-37 degrees Celsius, and the minimum around 25-26 degrees Celsius.
