Representatives of the association met CEO Satyabrata Sahoo and submitted a petition highlighting their demands. Later, addressing the media, the Federation’s president, Yuvaraj, said, “Citing the upcoming LS polls and bypolls, the State government has stopped supply of sand online. Because of this unannounced action, lakhs of employees dependent on sand business have lost their job.”

Further, he said that after the online sale of sand was stopped, there was severe scarcity of sand in TN and this affected construction works. In such a scenario, impure sand mixed with Msand and silica were being sent for construction works, he said, adding that if houses and commercial buildings are constructed with it, there would be a great threat to the buildings.

He also questioned the government whether it was ready to shut down Tasmac shops during the election. “There are hundreds of sensitive booths across TN and liquor shops near booths will cause disruption of law and order. But still the State government will not shut the shops. Whereas, online sale of sand has no problems associated with it and still it stopped online sale of sand,” said Yuvaraj.
