Officials inspected the shop after receiving a complaint on Saturday. “The shop was selling hand sanitisers above the MRP, which is a violation of Drugs Prices Control Order – 2013,” said K Sivabalan, State drug regulator. After COVID-19 being declared a pandemic by the WHO, sale of masks and sanitisers has soared and many shops are running out of stock. “We have been notified and if any retailer is charging extra for hand sanitisers, surgical masks and gloves, complaints can be filed against the retailer. The person can also be arrested,” said Director of Public Health, Dr K Kolandaisamy.
