Public holiday declared in 6 TN districts ahead of cyclone Burevi

Tamil Nadu government has declared a public holiday in 6 districts on December 4 in view of cyclone Burevi, which is expected to make a landfall in the early hours of Friday.

The State has released a G.O. declaring a public holiday (under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881) for Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar and Thoothukudi districts 

Cyclonic storm Burevi is expected to cross the south Tamil Nadu coast between Pamban and Kanniyakumari, during late Thursday night/early Friday morning, with wind speed of 70-80 gusting to 90 kmph, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Meanwhile the state government has taken precautionary steps like setting up of relief camps in Kanniyakumari and the fishermen who had gone into the sea have been informed to reach nearby shores for safety.
