Politicos welcome capital punishment to Kovai rapist

State politicians, across party lines, on Friday welcomed the capital punishment given to child sexual abusers in Coimbatore.

“We welcome the judgment of POCSO court sentencing the accused Santhosh Kumar for capital punishment. The judgment will ensure that no such heinous crime is committed in the future,” said DMDK founder Vijayakant, in a statement.


POCSO court in Coimbatore held Santhosh Kumar guilty in the case where a seven-year-old girl child was raped in Coimbatore and awarded him capital punishment. Judge Radhika delivered the judgment.


Family of the girl and politicians across the state welcomed the verdict and hailed the Judge for the stringent punishment. Vijayakant also said that DMDK is thankful for the judge who delivered the judgment and said that the punishment has paved way for safety ofgirl children.


VCK general secretary and Villupuram MP D Ravikumar also welcomed the verdict and demanded the government to arrest another accused in the case too. “Government should also arrest another accused related to the case and should make him get capital punishment. At least after the incident and the subsequent judgment government should understand the nature of the crime and should come forward to set up POCSO special courts in all the districts,” said Ravikumar, in a tweet.
