On Tuesday night, R Viswalingam (45), a resident of Siramelkudi near Mathukoor in Thanjavur, came in an inebriated condition and demanded the Pongal gift cash of Rs 2,500 from his father Raman (78). Since Raman did not part with the money, Viswalingam in a fit of rage, took an aruval from the house and attacked his father. Raman, who sustained a cut injury on the hand, was rushed to a private hospital where he has been undergoing treatment.

On information, Viswalingam’s brother Balasubramanian (50) came to the house and argued with his brother about the incident and this resulted in heated argument between the siblings. Suddenly, the argument snowballed into an assault and Balasubramanian grabbed a wooden log and attacked Viswalingam repeatedly in which Viswalingam sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.

Mathukoor police retrieved the body and arrested Balasubramanian. Further investigations are on.
