Legal panel set up to help DMK candidates 

The principal opposition party DMK has appointed poll managers and legal experts to assist the party candidates in the civic polls. The DMK high command on Monday released a list of poll managers, including several former ministers and district secretaries, to coordinate civic poll works on field and apprise the leadership.

Former ministers K Ponmudi, TM Selvaganapathy, MLAs J Anbazhagan, Thayagam Kavi, KS Ravichandran, S Sudarshanam, KS Masthan, SR Raja, Arvind Ramesh, P Ranganathan, RD Sekar, former Mayor M Subaramanian and TM Anbarasan were among the functionaries appointed in charge of a district each.


DMK insiders with knowledge of the appointment said the poll managers were asked to tour the districts they have been appointed in charge of and coordinate poll management in consultation with respective district secretaries.


The party also constituted a 10-member legal advisory committee led by senior advocate NR Elango to assist the party and alliance party candidates during the civic polls.


In a statement bearing the mobile numbers of advocates, including DMK legal wing secretary R Girirajan, the high command advised the party candidates and alliance party members to contact them in case of legal challenges posed by the ruling AIADMK or the SEC during the local body elections. Going by the information trickling out of Anna Arivalayam, senior DMK leaders would commence their election campaign tour in stages in over a week.
