In a statement, the party’s vice president Dr R Mahendran said that the fifth leg of the campaign would be held from January 10 to 13 in the Coimbatore region. Kamal who has been visiting multiple districts in his last four legs of campaigning would be visiting only Coimbatore and Erode districts indicating his party’s focus in the Western districts.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Kamal’s party though failed to win even a single seat, polled over 16 lakh votes across the state with the highest of 1.45 lakh votes polled in the Coimbatore constituency from where Mahendran contested. “We are hoping to do much better in the Assembly polls. Hence our leader will be spending more time in the Coimbatore region,” said a source in the MNM.

Kamal began his Assembly election campaign on December 13 by visiting the southern districts and covered all the parts of the state. “After Coimbatore, Kamal will be campaigning in Chennai to conclude his whirlwind tour,” party sources added.
