IIT-M alumnus to donate Rs 5 cr for renovating hostels

Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) alumnus, Krishna Chivukula, owner and Chairman, Board of Directors, Indo-US Mim Tec Private Limited, will be donating Rs 5 crore to renovate the hostels and augment existing maintenance facilities in the campus.

An initial sum of Rs 2.5 crore was handed over to the Institute to renovate the Cauvery Hostel, which was the first-ever hostel to be constructed on the campus. Interestingly, the hostels were named after rivers. The Cauvery hpostel was constructed in 1961.


While the government was able to provide well-maintained hostel accommodations to students, this one-time contribution will help elevate the hostels to world class standards for the benefit of several students, a release said.


Two more hostels were identified. Krishna Chivukula presented the cheque to IIT-M Director Prof Bhaskar in the presence of Prof Mahesh Panchagnula, Dean (International and Alumni Relations).
