CHENNAI: The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Friday (Feb 6) began distributing application forms for aspirants seeking to contest in the upcoming Assembly elections, but a particular question in the form has reportedly caused surprise among party workers.
According to a Daily Thanthi report, the application forms are being issued at the party’s headquarters in Panaiyur from February 6 and will be available until February 14. From Friday onwards, forms can be collected between 10 am and 6 p m. Aspirants have been instructed to fill in all required details completely and submit the forms along with relevant documents.
However, cadres expressed shock over a question in the form asking whether the applicant had ever been imprisoned for participating in protests on behalf of the party. The inclusion of this query has sparked discussion among party members.
Earlier in the day, the first application form was received on behalf of party president Vijay by senior functionaries. TVK general secretary N Anand and state executive committee chief coordinator K A Sengottaiyan were among those who obtained the forms after paying a fee of Rs 100. Party administrators from Chennai and several other districts gathered at the headquarters to collect the forms.
Meanwhile, residents living near the TVK office in Panaiyur complained of inconvenience due to increased activity in the area. They said vehicles are being parked in front of their houses and barricades are being erected, making it difficult for them to move around freely.
