Farmer succumbs to snakebite in Tiruvallur

The police said Duraisamy was bitten by the snake on Tuesday and succumbed without responding to treatment on Friday

CHENNAI: A 54-year-old farmer died on Friday after he was allegedly bitten by a poisonous snake while rearing his ducks at his village near Chitrambakkam in Tiruvallur.

The deceased was Duraisamy of Mariamman Koil Street in Kollumedu. The police said Duraisamy was bitten by the snake on Tuesday and succumbed without responding to treatment on Friday.

On Tuesday, Duraisamy returned home with the flock and went back again to find some of the birds that had gone missing. During the search, he got bitten by a snake. He rushed home and informed his family members about the snakebite, and was moved to the Tiruvallur government hospital.

Due to his worsening condition, he was shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai for advanced treatment the same day. However, he failed to respond to treatment and passed away on Friday. The Kadambathur police have registered a case and are investigating.
