Erode: 2 bikes of Hindu Munnani functionaries set ablaze

According to police, Sakthivel, a Hindu Munnani district executive committee member, owns the building, Vinayagar Arangam, where training camps used to be held for the outfit's cadres.

COIMBATORE: Tension prevailed in Chinnasadayampalayam near Erode after two bikes parked in front of a building owned by a Hindu Munnani functionary were set ablaze by an unidentified person on Wednesday night.

According to police, Sakthivel, a Hindu Munnani district executive committee member, owns the building, Vinayagar Arangam, where training camps used to be held for the outfit's cadres. There is also a warehouse in the premises, where Vinayagar idols used to be made and kept ahead of Vinayagar Chathurthi festival.

On Wednesday night, a moped belonging to Sakthivel’s wife and another bike owned by his brother-in-law, which were parked outside, went up in flames. Soon, neighbours alerted the Hindu Munnani functionaries and Erode Taluk police. They also doused the fire by pouring water.

Police rushed to the spot and examined the CCTV footage from the area and found an individual passing through the way on a two-wheeler in a suspicious manner around midnight. Special teams of police have been formed to trace out the culprit, and further inquiry is under way.
