DMK to secure absolute majority, predicts Vaiko

TIRUCHY: MDMK general secretary Vaiko asserted on Friday that the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) will register a massive victory in the 2026 Assembly elections, with the DMK forming the government with an absolute majority.

Addressing party cadre during the Samathuva Nadai Payanam pada yatra in Tiruchy, Vaiko said the “golden era” of the Dravidian model government will get renewed after the 2026 polls. People would once again back the DMK for its governance and development-oriented policies, Vaiko said.

Warning of threats to secularism, Vaiko alleged that Sanatana forces, backed by “Delhi,” referring to the BJP ruling the Centre, were attempting to divide people on religious and caste lines. He said that while several northern states had witnessed communal clashes, Tamil Nadu had remained a symbol of harmony, underscoring the importance of protecting peace.

“The Samathuva Nadai Payanam aims to create awareness among people about equality and secular values and will strengthen public support for the DMK-led alliance,” he said, adding that the campaign would mobilise voters in favour of the DMK in the interest of future generations.

Vaiko said the ongoing rally, which began on Friday, would culminate at Madurai Obula Padithurai on the Vaigai banks on January 12, where a public meeting would be held to mark its conclusion.
