A Sukanya (23), a teacher aspirant from Keezhvelur in Nagapattinam, was in love with J Rajarajan (25) from Pallapuram in Tiruvarur. But her parents who belong to intermediate caste opposed their relationship due to his caste.

They had locked her up in a room and threatened to kill her, but she managed to escape on May 18.

They got married the next day at Tiruchy. On May 23, they also registered the marriage. Learning about this, her parents contacted her and allegedly threatened to kill her for marrying him. They also went to Rajarajan’s house and allegedly threatened them.

“We are planning to go to Rajarajan’s house, but fear for our lives and also the safety of Rajarajan’s parents,” Sukanya said in her complaint, seeking police protection for them as well as his parents. The police have assured them of protection.
