The 35-year-old constable, D Anandakumar, recently earned accolades from Superintendent of Police (SP) RV Varun Kumar for having single-handedly nabbed the accused, identified as Sheik alias Jeyakumar of Paramakudi. Jeyakumar (24), who already has nearly thirteen criminal cases filed against him, was the prime accused in the murder of a 65-year-old man in Balan Nagar. Three other accused were already detained in the case, the SP said.

Recalling the incident of nabbing him on Monday, Anandakumar told DT Next that he chased the accused down after he was spotted at Ponnaiyapuram. While waiting at a mechanic shop, Anandakumar said he noticed the accused threatening a guava seller to part with cash. Anandakumar then managed to nab the accused. The SP said Anandakumar would be offered a cash reward soon.
