CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president Selvaperunthagai on Sunday said that the Congress supported the ongoing protest by cleanliness workers and urged the State government to take “immediate action to address their demands”.

Speaking to the media after the celebration of the 140th Foundation Day of the Indian National Congress at Satyamurthy Bhavan, he said, “People have every right in a democracy to fight for their rights, and Congress will support all democratic protests.”

Expressing concern over the electoral system, he alleged that “voting machines and the Election Commission appear to be deciding who will win”, and called it a threat to democracy.
