When the petition filed by Society’s present Head V Bharaniprasad came up for hearing, the court said if the probe was not completed in four weeks, the Deputy Registrar of Chengalpet District Cooperative Society should appear before the court.
The petitioner alleged that during Bharathi’s term as the Society head between 1996 and 2001 during the DMK regime, there were irregularities to the tune of Rs 7.64 lakh in construction of a commercial complex from the Society’s funds. Notices were issued to Bharathi and former office-bearers of the society in 2004 by the Registrar.
Since there was no further progress in the case, Bharaniprasad moved the High Court seeking a direction to the District Deputy Registrar to complete the probe in six months.
The court had passed an order directing the deputy registrar to complete the probe in eight weeks and file a report by October 10.
When the matter came up for hearing today, more time was sought to complete the probe, but the court initially said it was unacceptable, but granted four weeks’ time.
If the probe was not completed in four weeks, the district deputy registrar should appear before the court and adjourned the matter.
