Bharathi files plea in HC to quash FIR

DMK organising secretary RS Bharathi has moved the Madras High Court seeking to quash an FIR registered against him under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on Friday.

Petitioner’s counsel R Neelakandan made an urgent mention before Justice N Sathish Kumar seeking an urgent hearing on the plea. Accepting the plea, the judge said that he would hear the case on March 24.


The issue pertains to a FIR which was registered against Bharathi for his alleged speech degrading the SC and ST communities in a meeting organised by Kalaignar Reading Circle on February 20.


He submitted that the complaint was given against him by selectively quoting few lines from the speech.
