4 arrested for sale of alcohol on Gandhi Jayanthi in Thanjavur

TIRUCHY: The Thanjavur police arrested three persons selling IMFL bottles in the black market on the total prohibition day in view of Gandhi Jayanthi on Wednesday and seized 611 bottles concealed in a roadside garbage mound. The special teams, organised to monitor prohibition day, conducted elaborate raids in which they found that a gang was concealing huge numbers of IMFL bottles at a roadside garbage mound at Boothalur. One team seized as many as 239 bottles kept in a gunny bag and hidden in the garbage and arrested one person. Similarly, a team headed by Pattukkottai DSP Ravichandran conducted a raid at Pallathur near Sethubavachatram and arrested Sargunam (26), who was carrying 287 IMFL bottles to sell illegally. A probe revealed the bottles were handed over to him by Vivek from Thillankadu. A search is underway for Vivek. Meanwhile, a team conducted a raid at Orathanadu. They seized 85 bottles and arrested two persons - Rajaraman (39) and Arun Kumar (20).
