2.6 kg gold bars seized by AIU team from Dubai passenger in Tiruchy

AIU sleuths from Tiruchy secured a passenger bound from Dubai for smuggling 2.6 kg gold on Saturday.

It is said, while the officials were inspecting the baggage of passengers bound from Dubai by Air India Express, they found the movement of a passenger in a suspicious way and so they stopped him and conducted an inquiry. They later identified the passenger as Samsudeen (32) from Virudhachalam was bound from Dubai. Subsequently, the team inspected his luggage in which they found that 2.6 kg of gold bars concealed in the baggage and they seized them all. The officials said that the yellow metal costs Rs 1.39 crore. The officials registered a case and are conducting an investigation. The officials suspect that Samsudeen was a frequent flyer and has seized his passport for further verification. The officials claimed that there was a restriction and they are on vigil over such offenders and several such incidents took place during the pandemic season.
