2 Dalits killed over money row, 3 held

Two Dalits, a man and his son-in-law, were murdered by an armed gang at Nazareth in Thoothukudi district.

The brutal incident occurred late on Friday night in a house in Udayarkulam village. The deceased have been identified as A Palavesam (60) of South Street, Gandhi Nagar and his son-in-law R Thangaraj (26) of Srimoolakarai, sources said.

Investigations revealed it to be a murder to get back money lent to the victim. Palavesam had borrowed for his daughter’s marriage from T Muthuraj (35) and had lodged a complaint against the lender and his brother for trespassing and forcing him to pay back. Irked over this, a gang comprising six men barged into Palavesam’s house on Friday night and hacked him to death. They also killed his son-in-law Thangaraj who attempted to rescue him. Police so fare arrested 3 accused.
