The workers, most of them women, squatted on the premises of the Corporation office and raised slogans against the authorities and contractors, AITUC sources said.

They alleged that payments were irregular and there were arrears for the last two months and also no reasonable bonus for 2016-17, as they are paid a mere Rs 500 or Rs 1,000 Workers belonging to Coimbatore Labour Union affiliated to AITUC and Tamil Nadu Ambedkar Health and Hygiene workers union took part in the strike.

The union sources said the workers had resorted to the flash strike as their earlier demands had yielded no result.

Police said the flash strike had resulted in piling up of garbage across the city.

Discussions were on between the workers and the authorities concerned to find a solution, they said.
