The woman identified as Vijayalakshmi is said to have left the house on Sekkadu main road with her two children allegedly after a quarrel with her in-laws on Monday night and the incident happened just a few kilometres away from her house. Her children were Kavin Charan (3) and Nishanth (2 months) Avadi Railway police suspect that she could have committed suicide and have ordered for an inquiry by the revenue divisional officer.

Passers-by were shocked to notice bodies of a woman and two children between Avadi and Hindu College railway stations and alerted the railway police. The bodies were retrieved and sent to Kilpauk Medical College for post-mortem.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Vijayalakshmi married one Muthumari, an ambulance driver, four years ago against her parents will. Only two months ago, she gave birth to her second son and the naming ceremony was held just a week ago.

Though Vijayalakshmi was accepted by her family, she allegedly could not communicate the harassment she had to put up at her in-laws. However, she recently informed her family that her Muthumari often beat her up.

On Monday night too, she was allegedly beaten up after which she left the house. Vijayalakshmi's kin alleged that they came to know about her leaving the house much later, but could not trace her till morning. "If Muthumari had immediately searched for her, she would not have ended her life and that of their children," said a relative.

Avadi railway police have detained Muthumari and his parents to ensure that they co-operate for the RDO inquiry.
