Water supply to be cut for 24 hours in parts of Chennai on January 30

The disruption is due to the laying and integration of a major water pipeline on Uthamar Gandhi salai in Nungambakkam, being carried out as part of ongoing Metro Rail works. Water supply through pipelines will remain cut till 10 am on January 31.

CHENNAI: Piped drinking water supply will be suspended for 24 hours in parts of central and south Chennai from 10 am on January 30, the Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) said on Wednesday.

The disruption is due to the laying and integration of a major water pipeline on Uthamar Gandhi salai in Nungambakkam, being carried out as part of ongoing Metro Rail works. Water supply through pipelines will remain cut till 10 am on January 31.

Areas falling under the Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Adyar zones will be affected. This includes parts of Choolaimedu, Valluvar Kottam, Thousand Lights, Nungambakkam, T Nagar, Gopalapuram, CIT Colony, Mylapore, Nandanam, Alwarpet, West Mambalam, Kodambakkam and Saidapet, among others. Residents have been advised to store adequate drinking water in advance.

For emergency requirements, drinking water will be supplied through tankers under the ‘Dial for Water’ scheme, for which requests can be placed on its website.
