Two held for robbing 12 iPhones from Burma Bazaar trader

CHENNAI: Police arrested two persons who waylaid a trader and robbed 12 iPhones worth over Rs 10 lakh from him, on Thursday last week in Parrys Corner.

On December 29, the victim, Thaufiq Abdullah (26), who works at a store of his relative, was tasked with ferrying a consignment of iPhones to another store.

When he was riding his bike, two men who trailed him on another bike intercepted him near the Moore Street-Mooker Nallamuthu Street junction, threatened him and stole the phones he had.

Based on the complaint with North Beach police, a police team led by the Inspector of North Beach police station launched an investigation and examined CCTV footage from the area and arrested the suspects. The arrested persons were identified as Surya (28) of Korukkupet and Santhosh (25) of Kasimedu.

Police recovered two iPhones from them. The arrested persons were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. Efforts are on to trace the remaining phones.
