Traffic goes for a toss on Cenotaph Road after diversion

Motorists taking Cenotaph Road to reach Anna Salai from South Chennai should be careful on Monday morning as the traffic police have prohibited the right turn from Cenotaph Road to Anna Salai. Those were entering Anna Salai via KB Dasan Road will also be not allowed to take a right turn there.

Motorists will have to drive up to Nandanam junction to take U-turn to continue their journey towards Anna flyover or Thousand Lights.


“We have to barricade the right turn from Cenotaph Road because of the traffic pile up. The traffic regulation here has been changed to its earlier format,” a traffic police officer said. because of the diversion, motorists had to wait for nearly 12 to 15 minutes to reach Nandanam junction from Cenotaph Road-Anna Salai junction on Sunday afternoon.


When pointed out that the vehicles are piling up on Anna Salai because of the diversion, a police officer noted that it could be because of the traffic signal timing. “We would study it for two days and change accordingly,” the official said.


The police are having a tough time in deciding the traffic arrangement at Nandanam junction because every time they change the flow, vehicles pile up on one of the roads. the other. “Vehicles pile up either on Chamiers’ Road or Cenotaph Road or Anna Salai or even on KB Dasan Road. We are trying various options,” the police noted.
