An MTC bus (route number 12G plying between Anna Square and KK Nagar) reached Kamarajar Salai and the driver, Manoharan, asked the students travelling on the footboard to move inside.

As they did not listen to him, Manoharan stopped the bus and insisted them to get inside before later locking the doors of the vehicle. Meanwhile, the boys contacted their friends. They, who came on two-wheelers, intercepted the bus and got into a fight with Manoharan and the conductor and attacked them too.

On information, police seized the motorbikes and detained two of the students, while others escaped from the spot.
