While the statement by 24-year-old K Prabakaran became a sensation in the state, an enquiry with his neighbours revealed that the man was insane and has been going from one police station to another making the same claim for around two years.

Police too after learning from locals that Prabakaran was not in a proper state of mind did not take him seriously.

Prabakaran, who came to the Press Club on Tuesday night, said that he was one among the three who ‘killed’ former union minister A Raja’s close associate Sadick Batcha. “Fearing for life, I left my house two years back and was changing my location from place to another in the State,” he said and added that he had worked in hotels in Salem and Coimbatore. But when the police inquired about the location of the hotels, Prabakaran could not give a convincing reply.

Similarly, the police and the press were puzzled about the reason why he was chosen for the high profile ‘murder’. “I used to freely move in the Green House Promoters office where I was employed and Kumar (Paramesh Kumar) informed that they were planning to kill Sadhik Batcha and asked me to accompany them. Kumar also promised to me Rs 1 crore for the job,” Prabakaran said, who should have been 19 then.

The 24-year-old man further claimed that even top police officials did not take hsi confession statement seriously. “I met CBI officer S Arunachalam, DGP, and IGPs and told them that I along with Jaffar Sait killed Sadick Batcha. But, all the officers advised me not to reveal it to anyone as it might cause trouble to me,” he said.

Prabakaran gave a mobile number claiming it to be that of his father’s. When DT Next dialled the number to check, a vegetable vendor of Tiruvannamalai picked up the call and said it was a wrong number.
