Poor ATM card information upsets customers

ATM card holders of various commercial banks in the city have expressed concerns on being kept out of the loop with regard to changes incorporated by the banks to ensure additional safety.

Some are irked at not receiving periodic SMSs when money is deposited in their accounts. Even when money is withdrawn through ATMs, messages are skipped every once in a while. A bank official seeking anonymity said, “Banks fix a certain threshold when it comes to SMS alerts, like if amounts of Rs 5,000 or above are deposited.  Traffic density is a reason for delayed SMS when money is withdrawn.”

Another problem customers face is the ATM refuses access to a card stating it to be ‘expired.’ When RM Esther had this experience a day ago, she had to go to the bank where they handed over a new card and told her that the new card was valid for 6 years. “The old card was valid only for 2 years to ensure its safety” they added.

“The bank should have informed me about the two-year validity when they issued the card” she added.
